I first stumbled into Basil Thai in Pacific Beach while on one of my Thai-craving surges. I've been back several times since then, owing to the fact that I was pleasantly surprised by what I found there.

From the exterior, it doesn't look like much. In fact, it would be easy to pass right by without even giving it a second glance. But in this small, tucked away place I found a new favorite lunch destination. Asian inspired decor, friendly servers, and great food make it a place to stop if you're a fan of Thai.

The Feel

Walking into Basil Thai after being out on Garnet Avenue makes the restaurant's serene atmosphere that much more noticeable. The quiet provides such a contrast to the bustle of the community outside.

It's a relaxed and exotic-feeling place, decorated with earthy colors and Asian tapestries. Amiable servers in traditional dress further promote the foriegn feel. If you can manage to beat the lunch rush, you essentially have the space to yourself, and space in an environment like this one can almost be therapeutic.

Quiet and welcoming, Basil Thai is a good choice if you're looking for a nice, casual meal in PB.
