This is a question many love to ask and would love to have answered. However, it is so difficult to say which is the best beach in San Diego.
Really, each beach has a feel all to its own, so finding the best beach in San Diego for you is a matter of what you're looking for.
Go ahead and see which suit your fancy. :)
In A Nutshell: Classy, active, great for families
The Beauty of La Jolla Cove
This is the place to go if you're looking for a peaceful, ritzy kind of scene. La Jolla is home to clean, spacious beaches that are great for kicking back on, as well as great places to take kids.
Locals are pretty active. La Jolla is a cyclists haven, as well as a hotspot for jogging and surfing.
For vacationers, there are a ton of businesses around the main beach, La Jolla Shores, that specialize in leading kayaking, snorkeling, surfing, hiking, and biking adventures.
The surrounding city is full of upscale restaurants, shopping, art galleries, and accomodations.
In A Nutshell: Nude beach, gorgeous shoreline, good surf
Blacks Beach From Above
Blacks Beach is a calm place with a lot of beauty to offer, making it a good place to visit if you want a really chill day (if you don't mind nudity of course).
Blacks, in northern La Jolla, is known for great surf and as its title as the only nude beach in San Diego.
It generally draws an older crowd of beach-goers, as well as experienced surfers.

A Pacific Beach Sunset
Pacific Beach is an active place, largely due to the young crowd it attracts.
The shoreline is generally bustling with visitors--sunbathers, skim boarders, surfers, and joggers alike.
P.B. is a hub for vibrancy both at the beach and around town. This part of town is home to restaurants, shops, yoga studios, and a collection of bars. It's especially known for its nightlife.

In A Nutshell: Bustling, active, fun vibe
The Mission Beach Boardwalk
Mission Beach is a place for the active, for those who like excitement. So if that sounds like you, this could be your best beach in San Diego.
The boardwalk, the beach, plus Belmont Park attract so many people, making Mission Beach a happening location.
However, because the beach is so enormous, you can also get some relaxation by finding a spot out on the sand.
In A Nutshell: Quirky, bohemian feel, awesome tide pools
The Ocean Beach Tidepools
If you're looking for a completely unique San Diego beach, this is your place.
Ocean Beach is like San Diego's bohemian/hippie central. Beach-goers come from all sorts of different crowds, trust me when I say it's a very ecclectic place.
The O.B. tide pools are another point of interest. They're actually my favorite in San Diego, mainly because they're awesome. Take a walk down these beauties and you'll get an eyeful of ocean life.
As for the area around the beach, it's interesting to say the least. Tons of shops, diners, tatoo parlors, and bars line the streets, so it's always bustling.

In A Nutshell: Calm, beautiful, romantic, great for families
Coronado Sunset
Coronado is such a serene and beautiful place. If classy, calm, and scenic is what you're looking for Coronado is your beach.
People are active here, but there is such a laid-back vibe to the island. It's a combination that isn't found elsewhere in San Diego.
It's a great place to take kids because of its clean, spacious beaches and calm waters.
On another note, it's also a great place if you want a romantic setting. It's simply stunning, and that makes for a fantastic date/getaway destination.
