On The Hike Down. Gorgeous!
Given that Blacks is a beach in San Diego, naturally this is a beautiful place. However, there are three things that really separate this piece of seaside from its nieghbors:
1. The Torrey Pines Gliderport is on a bluff that overlooks it.
2. It's a very popular destination for skilled surfers.
3. This is the only nude beach in San Diego.
Other than those unique features, Blacks stands out because of its vibes. Imagine an unmatched free atmosphere, an aura of peace, all wrapped up in stunning scenery. That's exactly what you find here.

Let me walk you through a typical trip to Blacks Beach.
You start parked above the beach (there's a dirt lot at the end of Torrey Pines Scenic Drive). You'll likely have your breath taken away by the view of La Jolla from the bluff, then you must necessarily follow the call of the ocean down an awesome trail to get to the beach.
The trek could easily be classified as a hike, and when you've reached the bottom you may feel a bit tired, but at that moment you know it's time to relax. A spacious beach and the ocean lay ahead of you, as well as sunbathers (both clothed and not).
The sand is always less crowded than our other beaches, which makes sense given that most people tend to avoid clothing optional places. For the most part you'll find an older crowd here, most of whom visit simply to relax and take in the sun.
All there is for you to do is find a space to claim as your own and strip down to whatever degree you're comfortable with.
Bottom line: If you want a little space in a beautiful location, and you're not afraid of (or you embrace) nudity, this is a good choice.
On any given day you'll find surfers here shredding it up.
The waves are generally bigger at Blacks than they are at La Jolla Shores due to the contours of the ocean floor, so it draws a more experienced crowd.
It's definitely not a place for beginners.
Note: The fastest way to get to the water is down a dirt trail that gets pretty steep at times, so be prepared to brave that with your board if you hit up the surf here.
The Torrey Pines Gliderport is located on a bluff that overlooks this stunning stip of shoreline. The gliderport is a hub for paragliders and hang gliders alike. If you look to the skies, you're bound to find it dotted by colorful wings and gliders.
So maybe you're curious. If you've never tried either of these sports, but you'd like to give it a shot, tandem sessions with instructors are available. I can attest to their excellence having taken a tandem flight myself. For more information and an account of my experience, just follow the link. :)
Since this piece of shoreline is located in La Jolla, if you're looking for dining or other forms of entertainment around Blacks Beach, heading south towards downtown La Jolla is your best bet.
