The Feel

Costa Azul is a cool place. It's nothing fancy, just a nice, casual destination.

Located on Coronado's main drag, Orange Avenue, patio seating provides the opportunity to enjoy the gorgeous weather and a perfect place for people watching.

The decor channels a type of hacienda meets modernity, which is kind of fun going along with the cuisine.

The Food

I have to say this isn't the best Mexican food I've had, but Costa Azul serves up some pretty good dishes in it's own right.

You have your usual spread of choices with tacos, burritos, tostadas, enchiladas, and so forth. If you're looking for a suggestion, I'm a fan of the Coronado Burrito. It's loaded with your choice of chicken or carne asada, beans, guacamole, salsa, and lettuce. Talk about delicious wrapped in a tortilla.

Fair warning, the portions here are huge. When I say huge, I mean one plate could serve as maybe 2.5 meals. Seriously. Moral of the story, this is a good place to bring a friend and split your meal.

Desserts are also a point of temptation here: they have flan (a traditional custard-like Mexican desserts) and a killer ice cream sundae complete with a decadent brownie.

Price Range

When I first looked at the menu, I thought it looked over-priced for Mexican food. However, upon seeing the size of the portions I took back my initial judgement.

Mainly everything falls between $10 and $20, so not at all a bad deal in a nice sit-down restaurant.
