Silver Strand State Beach

Coronado's Silver Strand State Beach runs for miles just a few minutes drive south of the Hotel del Coronado. The waves here are generally much larger than those at the Central Beach, making the Strand a better choice for those looking to surf or boogie board. As an added bonus, dolphins can often be seen just outside of the surf, which I can say from my experience is quite exciting for both children and adults.

For Beach-goers

Coronado in general is a mellow kind of place, so you have the option of embracing that vibe or of taking a more active route to pursue biking, surfing, swimming, jogging, or whatever else might appeal to you.

Usually there's plenty of parking and beach to go around as well. It's a great place to be if you're planning on spending the day at the beach, but it is a little farther out of town so you're not within walking distance of any restaurants or accomodations.

Keep in mind that there is a fee for admittance to Silver Strand State Beach, so if you'd rather not pay heading north to Coronado's Central Beach is a great option.

For Campers

In addition, there are slots are available for tents and motor homes for the campers out there, and camping at the Strand in the summertime is simply awesome. You can spend all day hanging out and relaxing or splashing around, watch the sun set, and at the end of the day you can gather around a fire until you call it a night. The ambiance provides an environment that is enjoyable for everyone from small children, to teenagers, to adults.

My Uncle,Aunt, and their three sons get a slot at the Strand every year. My family heads over to visit while they're camping and we all have a blast. And I'm talking about a group of people whose ages range from 49 to 7.
